
This course is intended to familiarize students with the function and capability of the shotgun. Considered “the thinking man’s gun”, the shotgun is incredibly versatile and belongs in everyone’s gun safe. Students will learn multiple ways to properly handle and load their firearm, select ammunition for given scenarios, work through shooting scenarios, and how to utilize their firearm through different shooting positions. This course is taught by a certified police shotgun instructor and is open to all levels.

-Safe Loading/Unloading Techniques
-Continuous Fire Drills
-Correct Ammo Selection
-Clearing Malfunctions
-Recoil Mitigation
-Alternative Shooting Positions
-One-Arm Operation
-Shotgun Patterning
-Slug Zeroing
-Terminal Ballistics
-Moving Targets (simulating game animals)
Required Equipment:
Modern functioning shotgun in 12 gauge or 20 gauge (pump, single-shot, double-barrel, or semi-auto) such as Remington 870 or Mossberg 590.
Make sure your shotgun will function with ammunition brought to class.
-Ammo: 25 rounds slugs, 25 rounds buckshot (00 or 000), 150 rds birdshot (size 8 or 9)
-Ammo management system (small belt pouch or deep pants pockets)
-Eye and Ear protection
-Sling
-IFAK/BHK w/Tourniquet
-Water/Snacks (we will take a working lunch) -Clothing to train in all conditions including sturdy footwear
