Making fire from off the land is a game-changing experience. A conservative estimate is that less than ½ of a percent of the world’s population know how to make fire by friction. With this knowledge, you always carry the flame. In this course taught by former USAF SERE Instructor and ALONE show participant Mike Lowe, students will be guided through the process of learning how to make fire primitively. You will be guided and coached in the process of learning this game-changing skill.

This course will provide you with a better understanding of:

-Historical use of friction fire

-Building the components of a bow drill set with modern tools

-Making friction-fire tools from the land

-Building an appropriate tinder bundle

-Wood selection and cordage options

-Troubleshooting friction fire techniques

-Coal and flame extenders

-Training modifiers to continue training after the course

Participants should bring a basic kit with the following:

-Water bottle and snacks

-Multi-tool or Swiss Army Knife and small fixed blade (MORA or Equivalent)

-Ferro rod

-100’ Paracord

-Small tarp (5’x7’ minimum)

-Notebook and pen/pencil
